RFK Jr. calls to repurpose NIH’s budget in hypothetical role in Trump presidency – Washington Examiner

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pitched his plan to tackle the health crisis within the United States in a hypothetical second presidency by former President Donald Trump, which includes an initiative to tackle the causes of chronic diseases.

Kennedy, who had run as an independent presidential candidate, endorsed Trump during a campaign rally last month, during which he pitched a role he could have in reforming the U.S.’s pharmaceutical and food industry. On Wednesday evening, Kennedy explained he had litigated against agencies, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, and the National Institutes of Health, and that he knows about the “corporate capture” these agencies have and how to “unravel” it.

“And I understand exactly what we need to do,” Kennedy said on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime. “We need to take the $42 billion-dollar budget of NIH, which is now being used to incubate new pharmaceutical products to treat chronic disease, and instead, we need to figure out what’s causing it. We need to name names, we need to say, which — whether it’s high fructose corn syrup that’s linked to the obesity epidemic, establish the science behind that, and once we have a good science out there, the litigators come in and will solve the problem.”

During his endorsement speech to Trump, Kennedy prompted a desire to “make Americans healthy again,” a play on Trump’s iconic “Make America Great Again” motto. He claimed that if given the chance to properly address the health issues in the U.S., the country would see its “chronic disease burden lift dramatically” within two years.

Kennedy also offered his pitch on what Trump could talk about regarding Vice President Kamala Harris during next week’s presidential debate, specifically pointing to discussing her record. One major factor he would ask Harris about would be her role in “gaslighting the country” on President Joe Biden’s mental fitness, which he said the nation saw as “a hoax” at the last debate.

Since the first debate, Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, instead offering his endorsement to Harris, who will now face Trump this November. Besides Kennedy, Trump has also received the endorsement of former Democratic lawmaker Tulsi Gabbard, who is assisting the former president in his debate preparation.

The next debate is scheduled to be held on Tuesday and will be hosted by ABC News.
