Gaines rose to fame when she competed against Lia Thomas, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman, in the 2022 NCAA Championships.

Following her experience with Thomas, Gaines became an outspoken defender of maintaining the integrity of women’s sports, becoming connected to the news organization OutKick and nonprofit organizations, including the Independent Women’s Forum and the Leadership Institute. She has also written children’s books for the up-and-coming conservative Christian book publisher BRAVE Books. Other female athletes have been inspired by Gaines and joined her in the fight against transgender women in women’s sports.

This is a developing story.
