RNC launches early-voting initiative in New York

September 29, 2023 02:52 PM

The Republican National Committee announced its latest early-voting initiative for the 2024 elections on Friday, this time in New York.

The initiative is part of the committee’s larger campaign that it rolled out in June, called “Bank Your Vote,” to boost early turnout in the 2023 and 2024 elections. A similar measure was released in Virginia by Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA).

GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN: IF WASHINGTON CLOSES, IT COULD COST THE GOP IN VIRGINIA

“We’re excited to launch Bank Your Vote New York along with Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, Rep. Elise Stefanik, Rep. Mike Lawler, former Rep. Lee Zeldin, Chairman Ed Cox, and everyone at the New York Republican Party,” the party posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Early voting is key to our 2024 strategy, and we need your help! Go to NY.BankYourVote.com to sign up!”

There are eight freshman GOP lawmakers representing New York in the U.S. House, including Lawler and embattled Rep. George Santos (R-NY). Typically, Democrats have dominated early and absentee voting. However, conservative leaders have recently fought back against the belief that absentee ballots can lead to widespread voter fraud. Youngkin has credited his unexpected victory in 2021 to early voting.

The move also comes the same week as the committee unveiled its Spanish version of the “Bank Your Vote” campaign, which came during Hispanic Heritage Month.

“Deposita Tu Voto is just the latest example of the RNC’s commitment to Hispanic voter outreach,” McDaniel said in a statement. “This Hispanic Heritage Month, the Republican Party is not only celebrating the contributions Hispanic Americans have made to our great country, but we’re doubling down on our investment in growing our Party by engaging with Hispanic voters on why, where, and how to vote early.”

Republican leadership is expected to watch the Virginia elections in November, which could reveal early notions about the future of early and absentee voting for the Republican Party ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
