Robert Card: What we know about Maine shooting person of interest

Maine police have identified a person of interest in the mass shootings across the state Wednesday night that left at least 16 dead and dozens injured.

The Lewiston Maine Police Department identified 40-year-old Robert Card as a “person of interest” in the mass shootings and said he should be considered “armed and dangerous.” While police have not apprehended Card, officers located a “vehicle of interest,” a 2013 white Subaru Outback, on Wednesday night in Lisbon, Maine.

No one has been located or arrested in the shootings as police in the state remain on a manhunt.

Here is what is known about Card:

Firearms instructor

Card is a trained firearms instructor and “believed to be” in the Army Reserve stationed out of Saco, Maine. He reportedly served as a firearms instructor within his role in the Army Reserve, per reports.

History of mental health problems

A state police bulletin said Card had recently reported hearing voices that told him to “shoot up” the National Guard base in Saco.

A bulletin from the Maine Information and Analysis Center, a law enforcement database, reportedly alleged Card was committed to a mental health facility this past summer for two weeks before being released.

History

Card studied engineering at the University of Maine between 2001 and 2004. A man named Robert Card with the same birthdate as the person of interest was charged in 2001 and 2002 with speeding, according to NBC News.

The shootings in Maine took place at a bar and bowling alley, called Schemengees Bar and Grille Restaurant and Sparetime Recreation. The mass shootings prompted authorities in the state to advise citizens to shelter in place.
