Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is participating in a town hall Tuesday in Iowa just over a month out from the state’s Republican caucuses on Jan. 15.

The Florida governor will field questions from Iowa voters at Grand View University in Des Moines as part of the CNN town hall. The event comes as DeSantis tries to fend off former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley as she surges in the polls and gives DeSantis his first real competition for second place in the GOP primary.

The town hall will give DeSantis a chance to reach Iowa voters, many of whom appear to be unconvinced so far by high-profile endorsements in the Republican primary.

DeSantis will have a platform to make his stances known, and it remains unseen whether he will go after former President Donald Trump, something he and Haley have both received criticism for falling short on.

The appearance comes as DeSantis vies for second place in the polls.
