President Donald Trump fired Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden on May 8, making it the perfect time for Americans to clean out the rot in our public library system.
When reporters asked White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt why Trump sent Hayden packing, Leavitt said the former Librarian of Congress no longer “fit the needs of the American people.”
“There were quite concerning things that she had done at the Library of Congress in the pursuit of DEI and putting inappropriate books in the library for children,” Leavitt said, adding, “We don’t believe that she was serving the interest of the American taxpayer.”
The Library of Congress functions primarily as a research library and is open to patrons as young as 16. But it’s not the only library where the librarian is turning the bookshelves into left-wing propaganda tools geared toward young, vulnerable readers.
The Daily Caller received a patron email from the Sonoma County Library in California dated October 2022, highlighting just how emboldened left-wing librarians have become in pushing their agenda onto taxpayers. (Sign up for Mary Rooke’s weekly newsletter here!)
The library offered a “Family is a Rainbow” event recommended for children aged 0-6. It was billed as a storytime that included crafts and “exploring what it means to be a family.”
“Join us for an inclusive event for queer families and allies focused on celebrating the importance of family, diversity, and community,” the Sonoma County Library’s website stated.
Public tax dollars should not be spent running projects like these, especially when the outcome results in disordered children who are so confused about their lives that they are willing to embark on a journey of body mutilation.
The Sonoma County Library also started a “Here + Queer” archive project intended for all ages. The library allows anyone in Sonoma County to send in their personal stories detailing their life as a “queer” person.

“Here + Queer, Sonoma County collects, archives, and amplifies the histories of Sonoma County’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) communities. Throughout history, LGBTQIA+ people have fought for equality, representation, and dignity in society,” the website states. “The project actively seeks submissions from all ages and backgrounds, from all time periods in Sonoma County history.”
These events are held in libraries across the country. If it’s not storytimes promoting “queer” lifestyles, it’s anti-American dogmas or pro-Marxist summer camps. It’s all so exhausting. There should be a requirement that if taxpayer-funded libraries are promoting ideologies that will negatively affect our communities, at the very least, the librarian should be fired, and any funding to these projects should be immediately stopped.

We used to be avid public library patrons. With children who are avid readers, it makes way more financial sense to use a library card to satisfy their need to read than to go to the bookstore every time another installment in their series comes out. However, going into our closest library became a war zone. It’s flooded with books on LGBTQ culture and critical race theory. After a while, we decided that paying for the books was worth more than supporting the library that didn’t seem to care about us. Librarians used to be these sweet old ladies who wanted children to gain a love of learning. They would ask you what type of stories you were into, then introduce you to authors who wrote about faraway places. Now, they are mostly overweight, socially anxious lefties who don’t know much about Dickens but could recite word for word the latest on “queering your cat.”
Trump made the first move by firing Hayden. Now, Americans need to take back our local libraries. Let’s make these places somewhere we can take our kids again without worrying about stumbling into an ideological minefield.
