Comedian and television producer Rosie O’Donnell announced she will boycott MSNBC’s Morning Joe following the announcement that the hosts had a meeting with with President-elect Donald Trump.
Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski admitted Monday that they met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago following his victory in the Nov. 5 election. The occasion marked the first time in seven years that the three had spent time together, as the anchors previously disavowed the president over political disagreements. As a loud Trump opponent herself, O’Donnell joined in the outrage that followed.
“So Mika and Joe went down to Mar-a-Lago to kiss the ring. It’s the last time I ever watch Morning Joe. Period. End of statement. Unreal. Unreal,” O’Donnell said in a TikTok. “For months, you were telling us he’s the worst thing that could happen to this country and democracy, and then you go kiss his ring? Despicable. Despicable you, both of you.”

O’Donnell’s post was received by over 3,300 likes of followers who appear to agree with her.

Despite the backlash, Scarborough only mentioned “very positive, very supportive” responses to his meeting with Trump. He noted his recent in-person interactions as proof that “we’re all working towards a better America.”
On Wednesday, Comcast announced it will spin off a large chunk of NBCUniversal cable channels, including MSNBC, Morning Joe’s home channel. Scarborough made the lighthearted comment that “you never know what’s going to happen” and the whole show’s cast could be fired.
