Sarah Bedford says Hunter Biden promoting personal history will likely backfire

Sarah Bedford, the Washington Examiner investigations editor, predicted Wednesday that Hunter Biden capitalizing on his personal struggles with addiction likely will backfire on him legally as investigations into the Biden family continue into 2024.

Bedford made her prediction as House Republicans continue to investigate the business dealings of President Joe Biden’s son, who spoke in Washington last week in a rare public appearance. Hunter Biden, who has stated he has struggled with drug addiction in the past, has come under increased scrutiny by House Republicans, who are investigating his foreign business dealings and any involvement his father had in these dealings.

“I think that Hunter Biden has leaned into the PR campaign, promoting the sympathetic parts of his personal history that are actually likely to backfire in court,” Bedford said on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria. “You know, he can’t really argue that he was so hopelessly addicted to drugs in 2018 that he shouldn’t be held accountable for his actions, and that the expenses he was writing off on his tax forms in 2018 were also legitimate business expenses because he was capable of doing business.”

Bedford also weighed into a recent discovery on the president’s son traveling with the president, with Hunter Biden’s name kept off the Air Force One and Marine One passenger manifests. Adam Johnson, a manager of the Bullseye American Ingenuity Fund, said that Joe Biden allowing his son to fly with him “under the current circumstances” was poor judgment on the president’s behalf, with which Bedford agreed.

“Joe Biden has a political blindspot here when it comes to his son,” Bedford said. “He’s unable to manage this in a way that could help his campaign.”

The White House has defended its decision not to include the younger Biden on the Air Force One and Marine One passenger manifests, with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stating that the president’s family “gets to travel with the president.” Jean-Pierre added that the president loves his son and referred reporters to Hunter’s attorneys for answers regarding his legal entanglements.

Hunter Biden visited D.C. last week while defying a congressional subpoena, which sought answers from the president’s son behind closed doors. The president’s son has only offered to testify to the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees in a public setting, leading to conflict between him and the two committees.
