Secret Service Arrests Man After Physical Altercation At Trump National Doral Golf Club

A man landed in handcuffs Saturday afternoon at President Donald Trump’s Florida golf resort after he tangled with Secret Service agents working a security checkpoint.

The arrest happened around 4:15 p.m. at a screening station staffed by federal agents and local officers, Fox News reported. Acting Special Agent in Charge Michael Townsend of the Secret Service’s Miami field office said the suspect refused commands before laying hands on an agent. “During the encounter, the individual became disruptive and failed to comply with lawful orders,” Townsend said. “He then made physical contact with a member of the Secret Service and was taken into custody without further incident.” Doral police booked him on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting without violence.

Trump had visited the property earlier that morning with family members ahead of the PGA Tour event before departing the grounds, according to CBS12. The Cadillac Championship was drawing crowds to Doral that weekend, which had triggered tighter screening protocols across the resort entrances. Officers transported the suspect to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami after the arrest. The footage circulated by conservative commentator Nick Sortor showed the man in cuffs near the checkpoint, and Sortor said the suspect had triggered the magnetometers on his way through, The Daily Beast reported. Authorities have not released his name or any stated motivation for the confrontation.

The arrest came one week after gunman Cole Allen allegedly stormed past security at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and opened fire, wounding a Secret Service officer who survived thanks to a bullet-resistant vest, The Hill noted. Allen now faces a federal charge of attempting to assassinate the president.

Despite the timing, Townsend told Fox News the Doral situation never threatened agency operations. “At no point did this situation impact the established security posture for any upcoming visits to Trump Doral National Golf Club by Secret Service protectees,” he said. Trump was not on site.
