Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) said Sunday that Hunter Biden‘s latest prosecution is “legally justified” but noted that President Joe Biden‘s son won’t be on the ballot in 2024.
“I think this is a very troubled individual who has who has done things that are worthy of prosecution,” Murphy said on NBC News’s Meet the Press.

Hunter Biden was hit with nine new tax charges last week, including three felonies and six misdemeanors. The charges are in addition to his previous indictment for tax-related misdemeanors and failed plea deal over firearm charges filed over the summer.
According to Murphy, he looks forward to seeing the case against Hunter Biden continue. However, he said, “The American people understand that Hunter Biden is not going to be on the ballot next fall — that Joe Biden is going to be on the ballot.”

He turned attention instead to former President Donald Trump‘s family, saying, “It seems that they have made an industry out of profiting off of Donald Trump’s presidency.”
Murphy specifically pointed to Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and his business dealings with Saudi Arabia. “I think the American public are going to be very concerned about what has happened inside the Trump family since Donald Trump left the White House,” he said.
Host Kristen Welker pushed back, reminding the senator she asked about Biden’s son, not Trump’s family.
Murphy reiterated, “I think Hunter Biden is going to be held accountable in court for any violations of the law that he’s committed, and the American public is gonna get the chance to watch that play out in real-time.”

He again shifted the discussion to the 2024 election, likely to be a rematch between Biden and Trump. Murphy said he was “certain” the country would see a significant difference between the two and would opt against another Trump presidency.
Another Trump administration is “going to criminalize abortion is going to give more handouts to billionaires and the wealthy,” he claimed. On the other hand, he touted Biden, crediting the president with recovering the United States economy, despite the relatively poor ratings Americans continue to give the economy and Biden’s handling of it.
