Shots Reportedly Fired Near Chiefs Super Bowl Parade, Multiple Injured: REPORT

Several people have reportedly been injured after gunshots were fired Wednesday at the Kansas City Chiefs victory parade in Kansas City, Missouri, police said.

The gunfire happened at the west side of Union Station and authorities rushed to the scene to treat the victims, the Kansas City Police said on Twitter. Authorities evacuated a crowd of people stuck inside the station during the shooting.

Two armed suspects have since been taken into custody, police said. Between 8 and 10 people were reportedly injured as a result of the shooting, according to The Associated Press.

The University Health Truman Medical Center said at least five victims have been hospitalized, according to CNN. Authorities and medical personnel carried at least one victim out of the building on a stretcher, footage by KSHB 41 News anchor McKenzie Nelson shows.

Police requested that anyone present at the station exit the area immediately.

“Anyone nearby needs to leave the area as quickly and safely as possible to facilitate treatment of the shooting victims. Please avoid the Union Station parking garage area to allow first responders through,” the police said.

Footage showed Kanas City Chiefs fans scattering the leave the celebratory event following the gunfires. Police are seen rushing inside the station as fearful parade attendees appeared shocked and prepared to exit the area.

More footage showed parade attendees sprinting away from the area immediately after the shots were fired. Panicked voices can be heard shouting “the garage,” indicating the gunshots were heard from there, according to footage posted by Fox 4 Kansas City Sports Director Rob Collins.

A witness said he heard “a ton of gunshots going off” inside the station in a “very short amount of time.”

“A ton of gunshots going off. I thought it was fireworks.”

Democratic Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said she was one of the individuals evacuated from the station.

At the end of the Chiefs rally, shots were fired near Union Station. I have been evacuated and am out of harm’s way. I encourage everyone to follow instructions and updates from @kcpolice. Please stay safe,” Kelly said
