A hiker fell to her death Saturday at an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, according to authorities who located her body.
Sixty-one-year-old Nancy Sampson, a Greer, South Carolina resident, was sightseeing at the popular park around noon when she fell from a cliff near the Glassmine Falls overlook. After rappelling over 100ft down, rescuers identified the woman and confirmed that she had died from her injuries sustained in the fall, Fox News reported. The Sampson family is mourning Nancy’s unfortunate death, according to The Guardian.
“She was eagerly waiting for me to retire,” Nancy’s husband, Robert, told The Guardian. “My heart is broken – I will miss her smile and kind heart.”

Apparently, seeing the actual waterfall from the overlook can be difficult due to weather conditions. Officials did not explain what led to Nancy’s plunge over the cliff.
