Catherine, Princess of Wales, sent shockwaves worldwide when she announced she is undergoing cancer treatment. Social media users were quick to react.
Among the well wishes were messages of apology and relief after weeks of speculation. While Buckingham Palace had revealed that Kate had undergone major abdominal surgery, the lack of further details, plus the princess’s prolonged absence from the public eye, led to a multitude of conspiracy theories online.
“Time for jokes and speculation to stop,” podcaster Lee Mc wrote. “Regardless of her position she’s a young mum and I hope she makes a full recovery.”
“On behalf of all Londoners, my thoughts and prayers are with Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales following the news of her cancer treatment,” London Mayor Sadiq Khan wrote. “I wish her a full and speedy recovery.”
“Sending HRH the Princess of Wales my best wishes for a healthily and blessed recovery. The Princess of Wales is a dutiful public servant and wonderful mother,” Member of Parliament Priti Patel wrote. “I know that with the support of her family and the country she will get well soon.”
“The Princess of Wales has the love and support of the whole country,” U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wrote. “She has shown tremendous bravery with her statement today. She has been subjected to intense scrutiny and has bene unfairly treated by certain sections of the media around the world and on social media. When it comes to matters of health, like everyone else, she must be afforded the privacy to focus on her treatment and be with her loving family.”
“I’m deeply saddened to hear the news about the Princess of Wales/Duchess of Rothesay. I am praying for her swift recovery,” First Minister of Scotland Humza Yousaf wrote. “It must be an incredibly difficult time for the whole family. Royalty or otherwise, she has a right to privacy, which I hope will be respected.”
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre opened the briefing on Friday, moments after Kate’s announcement, appearing to be in shock at what was revealed.
“We just heard the terrible news. Our thoughts are with the Duchess of Cambridge and her family members and friends during this incredibly difficult time, and certainly we wish her a full recovery.”
Jean-Pierre said President Joe Biden has not reached out to Kate or to King Charles III, who was also diagnosed with cancer in February.

“My family will be praying for the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, who just announced her cancer diagnosis. She is a beautiful young mother, and I cannot imagine how difficult this must be for her family,” former White House press secretary Kaleigh McEnany wrote. “We pray for a full healing and recovery.”
It remains to be seen what type of cancer doctors diagnosed Kate with. She has only recently begun receiving chemotherapy treatment.
