Part of a rare double payment from the Social Security Administration this month, SSI payments go out twice in September. The first payment was issued on Sept. 1, and the second and final payment of the month will go out on Friday, Sept. 29. This payment will take the place of October’s payment.

A person needs to be 65 or over to be eligible for the Supplemental Security program, and he or she must meet specific financial requirements. People under the age of 65 may qualify if they are at least partially blind or have a physical or mental condition that seriously limits their daily activities for at least one year or is expected to result in death.
Payment amounts depend on a filer’s income, living situation, assets, and other factors. For those who filed as individuals, the rate for payments is up to $914 per month. The rate for eligible couples is worth up to $1,371 per month. Essential persons, who live with someone receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care, get a monthly payment of $458.

Children could be eligible for SSI payments if they are at least partially blind or have a physical or mental condition that seriously limits their activities for at least a year. Children could receive SSI if their parents with whom they live do not receive SSI benefits or if they have limited income or savings.
Two SSI checks will be sent during the months of March, June, September, and December in 2023, while the rest only see one check on the first of each month.
