Jerry Gumm II, the son of Pastor Jerry Gumm, alleged that he was arrested after a gunman opened fire inside his father’s church, according to a report.
Authorities accused Guy House of entering the Richmond Road Baptist Church in Kentucky on July 13 and fatally shooting Beverly Gumm and Christina Combs, Gumm’s stepmother and stepsister, LEX 18 reported. Pastor Gumm, who has led the church for more than a half-century, was allegedly shot and remains hospitalized. Randy Combs, Gumm’s brother-in-law, is also recuperating at a hospital. Police later shot and killed House. (RELATED: Alleged Wrongful Arrests Plague The People Of Tampa)
Gumm told LEX 18 he hurried to the church as soon as he learned of the shooting. “I wanted to know the condition of my father and I told police my name, that my father was over here,” he said.

Gumm said his emotions were weighing on him and claimed he was arrested by Kentucky State Police (KSP) and accused of menacing. A KSP trooper alleged in a citation that Gumm was “belligerent” and “grabbed the handle of his gun.”
Gumm denied the allegation and claimed that he never reached for his weapon and was backing away while attempting to lift his hands up. “I was asking for the condition of my father the whole time, and they said, ‘Watch the news, that’s all the information you’ll need to get,’” he told the outlet.
He is set to appear in court Aug. 29 and he and his lawyer hope authorities will drop the charges. Despite the arrest, Gumm said he still respects law enforcement.
“They’re human, they’re going to make mistakes but they’re supposed to have more training, more de-escalation training and it looks like a couple of them weren’t using it,” he told the outlet.
