‘Squad’ up: AOC and company get new backers as challengers line up to oust them – Washington Examiner

Several “Squad” Democrats are expected to get help from a coalition of hard-left groups that are vowing to combat any efforts from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee to campaign against progressive-left Democrats.

The coalition, called Reject AIPAC, calls on candidates to take its pledge not to take any contributions or endorsements from the AIPAC or any of its related political action groups.

The 22 groups listed on the coalition’s website claim they will “organize Democratic voters and elected officials to reject the destructive influence of the Republican megadonor-backed AIPAC on the Democratic primary process and our government’s policy towards Palestine and Israel.”

The hard-left groups in the coalition include Justice Democrats, the Sunrise Movement, the Democratic Socialists of America, and the Working Families Party, among others.

The pledge the coalition brandishes accuses AIPAC of being a “hawkish, warmongering, and bullying force in U.S. politics” and claims the group has “supported an unconditional flow of US military funding and weapons to the Israeli government that have been used to support human rights violations against Palestinians.” It also accuses the group of amplifying “insurrectionists” domestically.

AIPAC said it is not deterred by the coalition, with a spokesperson telling the Washington Examiner it is “proud” of its engagement with U.S. lawmakers.

“We are proud to engage in the democratic process to strengthen the US-Israel relationship and we will not be deterred in our efforts by an extremist anti-Israel fringe,” an AIPAC spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.

AIPAC is reportedly planning on spending $100 million to support challengers to anti-Israel Democratic incumbents in their primaries, with the group’s super PAC allegedly monitoring 15-20 different races in the House of Representatives.

AIPAC has previously called out several Squad Democrats, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), over their opposition to pro-Israel resolutions in Congress. Ocasio-Cortez has responded to critiques by calling the group “one of the more racist and bigoted PACs in Congress.”

The war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas started roughly four months ago when Hamas terrorists attacked the Jewish State on Oct. 7, 2023.
