State of the Union 2024: Protesters block Biden’s path from White House to Capitol ahead of speech – Washington Examiner

Protesters are aiming to block President Joe Biden’s path from the White House to the Capitol ahead of his State of the Union address.

The demonstrators are standing in opposition to Israel‘s military campaign in Gaza and the Biden administration’s response to it. Dozens of protesters blocked the street, one of the president’s possible paths to the Capitol, as he is set to head over to deliver perhaps the biggest speech of his presidency.

“Biden’s legacy = genocide,” read some of the shirts and banners in the demonstration. “Shame,” they screamed, as well as “genocide” followed by “Joe.” A giant Palestinian flag was also displayed. Many U.S. Capitol Police officers are at the scene.

Biden is set to announce a plan Thursday night to build a port in the Mediterranean off Gaza’s coast to increase the amount of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Pro-Palestinian protesters have been deeply critical of Biden and engaged in numerous protests across the country over his continued support of Israel during its military efforts in Gaza, which have killed thousands of Palestinians.
