Stefanik’s stock with Trump weighing vice president options jumped with antisemitism hearing grilling

Former President Donald Trump has hinted he knows who he’s picked to join his ticket as vice president, and Rep. Elise Stefanik‘s (R-NY) name has surfaced in multiple conversations.

Stefanik, who went viral last year for searing Harvard President Claudine Gay during a hearing after she was unable to say whether calling for the genocide of Jews violated the school’s code of conduct, has caught Trump’s attention as a potential pick for vice president, the Daily Mail reported.

According to sources attending a Mar-a-Lago dinner, the former president is very impressed with Stefanik after she grilled three university presidents for campus antisemitism, CNBC reported

“If you’re Trump, you want someone who’s loyal above all else,” Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon told the Daily Mail. “Particularly because he sees Mike Pence as having made a fatal sin.”

Stefanik endorsed Trump for president in 2022 before he had even announced he was running for reelection, making her the first GOP leader to support his second campaign.

Stefanik is hitting the campaign trail for Trump later this week in anticipation of the New Hampshire primary.

Meanwhile, Trump allies are attempting to stomp out rumors that former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley could claim the vice president spot, warning him that she would undermine him and his administration.

“Nikki Haley as VP would be an establishment neocon fantasy and a MAGA nightmare,” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) told Politico. “On Day One she would convert the Naval Observatory into an anti-Trump, resistance headquarters, undermining him at every step.”

Stefanik has not commented on the vice president position specifically, but in a Meet the Press interview, she did not completely decline the role.

“Well, I, of course, would be honored to serve in any capacity in a Trump administration,” Stefanik said.
