Eligible Los Angeles County residents will receive their monthly $1,000 payment in eight days as part of a guaranteed income program.

Recipients of Breathe, a pilot program, are all former Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services foster youth who are between the ages of 21 and 23.

One thousand participants were selected to receive $1,000 per month for three years from Breathe. An additional 200 people were chosen to receive $1,000 per month for two years.

The program intends to provide households with “financial stability during sharp economic swings to breathe a little easier, alleviate stress, and broaden recipients’ horizons, allowing them the time to complete deferred education and job training, as well as plans to fully participate in their communities,” according to the program’s website.

Breathe allows for payments without work requirements.

Payments are sent on the 15th of each month, Los Angeles County’s Strength Based Community Change agency told the Washington Examiner.

Applications for Breathe opened on March 31, 2022, and they closed on April 13, 2022. Applications for the expansion for an additional 200 recipients opened on June 20 and closed on July 3.
