Applications for the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend program will open to residents for 2024 in 14 days.

The period to apply for the program, which offers a direct payment annually based on the state’s mineral revenues for that year, is from Jan. 1 to March 31.

An applicant must be an Alaska resident who intends to remain a resident of the state indefinitely and is not a convicted felon, among other requirements, to qualify for the program.

Some people who do not file by the March 31 deadline may be eligible for an exemption. Further information on exemptions to the application period can be found on the Alaska Department of Revenue’s website. Applications for the program can be filled out either online or through a paper form. The status of a resident’s application can also be viewed on the state’s website.

A resident must apply during the application window, even if the recipient received a payment from the program in the past, to receive a payment from the program.

The 2023 Permanent Fund Dividend amount was $1,312 and began going out to eligible residents earlier this year.

“This year, we processed over 8,000 more applications than in 2022,” Alaska Department of Revenue Commissioner Adam Crum said in a statement about the 2023 payment. “The 2023 PFD will inject nearly $1 billion into the state’s economy and directly into the hands of Alaskans.”
