Eligible taxpayers in Virginia will begin to see tax rebates of up to $400 in their bank accounts and sent in the mail starting on Wednesday.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) announced on Tuesday that eligible residents in the Old Dominion will begin to receive the rebates over the next three weeks.

“We’re excited to announce that tax rebates will begin to be distributed in the coming days,” Youngkin said in a statement. “As Virginians continue to face inflation and high prices as a direct result of policies out of Washington, D.C., these rebates are an important step going into the holiday season to help Virginians keep more of their hard-earned money for gas, groceries and essentials.”

He added, “My administration has delivered over $5 billion in tax relief to Virginians, and we’re pleased that these rebates will provide needed relief to Virginians.”

The rebates will be worth up to $200 for individual filers and up to $400 for joint filers, according to the state. Not all taxpayers in the state will be eligible for the rebate, but those with a tax liability will be eligible. The state provides a website for residents in Virginia to check if they are eligible for the rebate.

Residents who have already filed their tax returns do not need to do anything extra to receive the rebate, but those who have yet to do so must file by the extended Nov. 1 deadline to qualify for the rebate. There is one week for these taxpayers to get their 2022 returns submitted to be eligible.

The payments from the tax rebate will be sent to taxpayers either via direct deposit or paper check, depending on how they received their refund.
