Suspect Allegedly Attacked Open AI CEO

A suspect allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s home in San Francisco, California, the company said Friday.

At around 4:12 am, police officers responded to a North Beach residence, according to a San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) statement posted on Facebook and obtained by the Daily Caller.

A 20-year-old male suspect allegedly threw the device at the home, resulting in a fire to an exterior gate, the statement read. There were no injuries reported, and the suspect allegedly fled the scene on foot.

Officers responded at 5:07 a.m. to a business on the 1400 block of 3rd street where the same suspect allegedly threatened to burn down the building, police said. The headquarters of OpenAI are located at 1455 3rd Street, NBC News reported.

Officers arrested the suspect with probable cause, but an investigation into the two incidents is ongoing.

“Early this morning, someone threw a Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman’s home and also made threats at our San Francisco headquarters,” an OpenAI spokesperson said in a statement to the Caller.

“Thankfully, no one was hurt. We deeply appreciate how quickly SFPD responded and the support from the city in helping keep our employees safe. The individual is in custody, and we’re assisting law enforcement with their investigation,” the statement continued.

Mission Local obtained a photo of the suspect, which was sent in a police department-wide email. The suspect’s name has not been identified as of publication, the outlet reported.
