Suspect detained in ‘shocking’ crossbow massacre of BBC commentator’s wife and daughters – Washington Examiner

A 26-year-old man believed to be responsible for killing the wife and two daughters of a BBC commentator with a crossbow in a town northwest of London is now in custody.

Authorities issued a statement before 6:30 p.m. local time that they apprehended Kyle Clifford in Enfield where he lives, a little less than 24 hours after authorities responded to a call and found the three victims inside their home in Bushey.

The victims were the wife and daughters of John Hunt, a BBC commentator on the network’s horse racing channel.

Carol Hunt, 61, Hannah Hunt, 28, and Louise Hunt, 25, were all shot with a crossbow. Despite the efforts of paramedics, all three women died at the scene.

Authorities determined that the attack was “targeted” and that the suspect, allegedly one of the victims’ ex-boyfriends, was known to the women.

Throughout Wednesday, an extensive manhunt involving helicopters had been conducted in search of Clifford. His home in Enfield had been searched, but authorities had apprehended him at a cemetery nearby. He has been apprehended by police “with no shots fired” and is receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

Justine Jenkins, detective inspector from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, is asking for the public to be respectful of the family’s privacy during this “incredibly difficult time for the victims’ family.”

In the United Kingdom, crossbows are legal and do not require a permit to purchase or use.
