The 23-year-old suspect in a shooting at Wilmington Hospital in Delaware that left one person dead and another injured is in custody Tuesday night, according to police.
Police said the man was apprehended in Philadelphia, which is approximately 30 miles from Wilmington, but declined to comment on the alleged gunman’s possible employment at the hospital after reports that the man shot two of his co-workers.
Police responded to the incident around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and a manhunt was launched.
Police are withholding the victims’ identities, and the condition of the second victim is unknown.
Police Chief Wilfredo Campos said the lockdown at Wilmington Hospital was lifted.
“Regardless of what the motive in this instance might have been, there is never an excuse for violence,” Campos said.

Delaware State Police and FBI personnel were on the scene, but authorities have yet to identify the suspect.
“Anytime there’s any shooting incident, it’s always difficult,” said David Karas, a Wilmington Police Department spokesman. “It’s certainly not what a community wants, and we’re going to make sure to get to the bottom of it and hold the individual responsible.”
