A 13-year-old boy was arrested Friday after home surveillance footage allegedly showed him groping a 78-year-old Kentucky woman, according to WLKY News.
The teen, who was not identified, asked Jan Fletcher for directions to a park before pretending to brush something off her back and then groping her, the outlet reported. “As soon as that happened, I said, ‘Let me tell you something, you better get out here and you better go now.’ So he did. He was gone,” Fletcher told the outlet. “Why [did he do] this? What was the reason that he did it? And I want an apology for him doing it.”
Fletcher was sweeping her front porch when the teen rode up on a bike and asked if anyone else was inside her house, WDRB News reported. She told the outlet she believes he might have tried to rob her if she hadn’t driven him away.
“This person could’ve had a knife in his pocket or a gun. I’d have died trying to keep him away from me. I kept thinking, ‘What could I have done different?’” Fletcher said. Her granddaughter later shared security footage of the encounter, according to the outlet.
Louisville police confirmed the arrested and credited the 7th Division Detective’s office. Officers said the boy did not live in the neighborhood where the incident happened.
“Last week, we were made aware of a disturbing incident where a suspect walked up to a front porch and eventually groped an older lady by brushing her backside several times. The case was assigned to the 7th Division Detective’s Office,” Louisville police said in a statement. “We hope this arrest relieves some of the fear and embarrassment the innocent woman suffered. Great work, detectives.”
Fletcher told WAVE she refuses to be intimidated.
“I’m not afraid to sit here. I’m not,” she said.
