A New York teenager is being praised after he fended off an intruder with a baseball bat after the man broke into his home and attacked his mother.

Authorities arrived on the scene and discovered the woman with her 14-year-old son following reports of an altercation, Hudson Police said.

McNamara had purportedly knocked on the door before forcing his way in and began smashing property and attacking the mother.

He was allegedly attempting to force her out of the apartment when her teenage son went after McNamara with a baseball bat.

Officials transported McNamara to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and they took him into custody when he left.

Medical attention was not required for the mother.

McNamara faces charges of second-degree burglary, third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, the report noted.
