Texas attorney general targets DEI in Boeing supplier investigation – Washington Examiner

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion in his investigation into Boeing’s parts supplier to determine if the ideology contributed to safety issues.

Paxton launched an investigation into Spirit AeroSystems Holdings, Inc. on Thursday after what his office said are “reoccurring issues with certain airplane parts provided to Boeing,” including incidents involving fuselages used in the 737 jet.

Spirit has recently come under scrutiny for high-profile malfunctions, including the midair door plug blowout of an Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 flight, which caused the airline to temporarily ground its fleet.

In addition to requesting documents related to Spirit’s manufacturing practices for its products, Paxton is also requesting documentation related to its DEI “commitments, and whether those commitments are unlawful or are compromising the company’s manufacturing processes.”

“The potential risks associated with certain airplane models are deeply concerning and potentially life-threatening to Texans,” Paxton said in a press release. “I will hold any company responsible if they fail to maintain the standards required by the law and will do everything in my power to ensure manufacturers take passenger safety seriously.”

Paxton is demanding proof from Spirit that “substantiate its claim that a diverse workplace improves product quality and /or ‘enhance[s] performance’ and/or ‘helps [Spirit] … make better decisions,’” the letter from Paxton stated.

While it is unclear exactly what Paxton’s inquiry hopes to uncover, DEI ideology has come under scrutiny in a variety of fields for placing a premium on race and gender while neglecting merit.

The Texas Republican is also requesting employee demographic data from before and after Spirit adopted its DEI policies.

Spirit spokesman Joe Buccino responded to Paxton’s request Friday, stating, “While we do not comment on investigations, Spirit is wholly focused on providing the highest quality products to all our customers, to include the Boeing Company,” according to KXAN.

The attorney general’s office gave Spirit until April 17 to comply with the request.
