Texas man dies after trying to sink stolen car in lake

A man in Texas died after he tried to sink a stolen car in a lake, police said.

18-year-old Keith Johnson was killed due to injuries he received around 1:00 p.m. Monday, according to a release from the Little Elm Police Department.

“The vehicle’s occupant … was attempting to submerge it in Lewisville Lake and was struck by the vehicle in the process,” the release read.

When emergency personnel responded to the scene, they discovered a partially submerged single-car motor vehicle with at least one occupant, Johnson, that was seriously injured, police said.

He was rushed to a local hospital, but efforts to save his life ultimately failed.

“Johnson sustained serious injuries as a result of the impact and was transported to the hospital,” the release read. “He succumbed to his injuries early on Monday, December 18.”

An end to the investigation into the incident has not been confirmed.
