For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction; such is the case with movers between California and Texas, according to data.

The Lone Star State had the most residents to leave its state for California, with the tally coming in at 42,279 residents last year. Other states that came close to having the most migrants to the West Coast included Washington and New York, both of which lost over 31,000 residents to California, according to data from U.S. Census Bureau.

Despite this, Texas is still gaining more residents from California than losing to that state. Last year, Texas gained more than 102,000 people moving from California, more than twice what Texas lost to the state.

Besides Texas, the state most movers left California for was Arizona, which gained 74,157 residents from the West Coast state.

California has had to deal with many moving elsewhere in the United States, including businesses like Advantage Solutions, a marketing firm. Most recently, comedian Bill Engvall revealed that he is leaving California for Utah, as the state’s taxes “were just becoming insane.”

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) had denied the idea of there being a mass exodus earlier this year, calling it a “myth” that is “simply not true.”
