These are the Republican senators who voted against the continuing resolution

Congress narrowly avoided a government shutdown on Saturday without the help of nine Senate Republicans who voted against the 45-day continuing resolution.

The clean continuing resolution buys lawmakers more time to negotiate the annual appropriations bills. President Joe Biden signed the CR late Saturday night, just hours before the government would have shut down on Sunday.

Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Mike Braun (R-IN), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Mike Lee (R-UT), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Rand Paul (R-KY), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), and J.D. Vance (R-OH) voted against the CR on Saturday.

Most of the nine senators did not offer a comment or statement on their vote on the CR. Hagerty posted on X that he “made very clear that I wouldn’t support any short-term funding bill that didn’t include serious border-security measures to help put an end to the Biden Border crisis.”

“My colleagues know that I’ve worked my heart out to this end, and I look forward to working with them over the next 45 days to accomplish this critical goal,” Hagerty continued in another post.

Marshall also blasted the CR on X, calling attention to the influx of migrants at the border.

“The CR does nothing to address our most immediate national security threat- our open southern border & the fentanyl pouring in,” Marshall said. “With a $33 trillion debt crisis, it’s never been more clear America can’t afford to continue these spending levels for one more day, let alone, 45.”

Senate Republicans abandoned a previous bipartisan continuing resolution after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) abruptly changed the plan Saturday morning, announcing the House would be taking up a continuing resolution that would include disaster relief funds but no funding to aid Ukraine.

Leaders in the Senate voted on the House’s version in an effort to prevent a shutdown, as the 45-day CR keeps government funding at fiscal year 2023 levels, provides $16 million for disaster relief, an extension of a federal flood insurance program, and an extension for the Federal Aviation Administration.
