Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) dodged questions as to whether he would become former President Donald Trump‘s running mate.

In an appearance on CNN‘s State of the Union on Sunday, Scott avoided directly answering host Dana Bash if he would be open to being Trump’s 2024 running mate.

“The only thing I want is four more years of Donald Trump, and a Republican majority in the Senate, majority in the House, and the White House, so that poor kids who are today growing up in neighborhoods like I grew up in, have a chance for quality education,” he responded, adding that he wanted to inspire kids to look to the future optimistically.

“If you don’t think about yourself but think about the country first, we’ll be in good shape,” he said.

“That wasn’t a no — that door is wide open, fair read?” Bash responded, laughing.

“Well Dana, you could you could take it any way you want,” Scott retorted with a laugh. “My goal was to do one thing; it’s always gonna do the same thing. Make America and Americans believe in our future and the way that we do not today.”

Scott, who ran for the presidency himself before dropping out amid low poll numbers, endorsed Trump in a speech last week.

With many believing that Trump will quench the nomination after his historic win in Iowa, speculation has now been diverted to the spot of his potential running mate. While many candidates look likely, several Trump allies intervened in an attempt to ensure that former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley won’t be chosen.
