Tom Cruise connected to ‘Top Gun 3’: Report

Tom Cruise could be taking flight as Capt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell one more time after reports of a third Top Gun movie in the works have gone viral.

A new installment of the Cruise-led franchise would see the 61-year-old action star reprise his role as one of film’s favorite aviators.

Both 1986’s Top Gun and 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick were critical and box office hits, with the latter earning over $1.5 billion and being named the best film of the year by the National Board of Review.

“Top Gun: Maverick is a thrilling crowd-pleaser that is expertly crafted on every level,” NBR President Annie Schulhof said. “Tom Cruise, Joseph Kosinski, and the entire filmmaking team have succeeded in making an incredibly popular film that brought audiences back to theaters, while at the same time being a full-on cinematic achievement.”

Sequel director Joe Kosinski and co-writer Ehren Kruger purportedly are returning for the third film, and Cruise recently signed a non-exclusive deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, according to the report.

While that deal commits Cruise to produce and act in movies for Warner Bros. Discovery, it does not forbid him from appearing in other projects, per the report.
