A transgender high school athlete is under fire after winning a New Hampshire girls high jump title on Sunday.
Kearsarge Regional High School sophomore Maelle Jacques, a biological male who identifies and competes as a woman, defeated all competitors in the girls Division II high jump at the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association indoor track and field championship, according to a report.
Jacques completed a 5-foot-1-inch jump, which is at least an inch better than all the biologically female competitors, but that figure paled in comparison to the boys Division II numbers.
The lowest jump recorded in the boys’ competition was 5 feet and 8 inches, and a 6-foot-2-inch jump was also achieved, according to the report.
Former University of Kentucky swimmer-turned-women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines ridiculed both Jacques’s participation and score.
“Maelle Jacques (male) won a state title in girls high jump this past weekend in New Hampshire,” Gaines posted to X.
“He won the women’s category with a 5’2″ jump. This is 10 inches lower than the best boys high jump at 6’0″. Another less than mediocre man atop a women’s podium. He must be so proud.”
Gaines’s sentiment was echoed across the platform.
“Champions don’t steal or cheat,” one user posted.
“Maelle Jacques did both. Let’s reserve the word ‘champion’ for those who deserve it.”

“At the NHIAA Division II championships, Somersworth High’s Savanna Comeau was outjumped by Kearsarge High’s Maelle Jacques, a biological male,” another posted.
“Yet another instance where the integrity of women’s sports is obliterated due to trans participation.”
