Trump downplays concerns over age, says there’s ‘big difference’ between 77 and 80

Former President Donald Trump hit back against fears over his age, saying that there was a “big difference” between 77 and 80.

Speaking on Saturday at a rally in the NHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire, Trump, 77, rebuffed attacks on his age, according to Politico, following comments from former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley showing concern.

“I don’t mind being 80, but I’m 77, that’s a big difference,” Trump said.

A few minutes later, he praised his own mental virility, saying, “I feel my mind is stronger now than it was 25 years ago.”

Haley made comments questioning his age the same day when she implied that he was mentally unfit for the presidency. She was hitting back against allegations that she was responsible for security in the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“They’re saying he got confused. That he was talking about something else, that he was talking about Nancy Pelosi,” Haley said. “When you’re dealing with the pressures of a presidency, we can’t have someone else where we question whether they’re mentally fit to do this.”

Trump’s opponents have sought to make his age an issue, drawing parallels between him and Biden, who is 81. Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) campaign spearheaded many of the attacks on Trump’s age.
