Long served Missouri’s 7th Congressional District from 2011 to 2023 and worked in several committees, such as the Committee on Energy and Commerce.

Republicans haven’t been friendly to the IRS at times. Earlier this year, then-presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) suggested abolishing the agency. Some congressional Republicans have put forward proposals that would enact massive cuts to funding or the agency’s workforce.

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) has been especially hostile toward the agency, putting forward proposals to cut funding for the agency to fund Veterans Affairs home loan fee cuts or FEMA relief.
