Trump plays down talk of revenge: ‘I’m not going to have time for retribution’

Former President Donald Trump downplayed his talk of revenge if he wins the 2024 presidential election, saying he isn’t “going to have time for retribution.”

Speaking at a town hall on Wednesday, Trump toned down his talk of vengeance, saying there wouldn’t be time for retribution and that victory would be enough retribution in and of itself.

“I’m not going to have time for retribution,” he declared. “We’re going to make this country so successful again, I’m not going to have time for it.”

“My retribution is success,” he added.

“I am not going to have time for retribution. I am going to be so busy making our country so successful that we won’t need retribution. My retribution is success”

The remarks ostensibly signal Trump’s toning down of his messaging regarding vengeance, a theme he has played up throughout his campaign. In March, he set the tone of his campaign in a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

“I am your warrior. I am your justice. And for those who have been wronged and betrayed, I am your retribution,” Trump declared.

Just hours before Wednesday’s town hall, his campaign sent out a fundraising pitch reiterating calls to be “your retribution.”
