Former President Donald Trump said Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) may drop out of the 2024 presidential race “very soon.”

Speaking at a Fox News town hall Wednesday night that aired at the same time as the CNN Republican primary debate between DeSantis and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Trump touted the Florida governor’s declining poll numbers, saying that he may soon be finished with the race.

“He’s gonna be out of the race very soon, gonna be out very soon,” Trump said. “You know I watched him last night. He’s standing up with his shoes, his fancy shoes. … He’s gonna be out of the race within, you know, a lot of people say before New Hampshire.”

Trump was referencing rumors that DeSantis wears boots with lifts inserted into the heels to make him appear taller. The rumors have led to widespread mockery on social media, which was picked up by Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who poked fun at him onstage in previous debates.
