Trump says Garvey has ‘no chance’ in California Senate race without MAGA – Washington Examiner

Former President Donald Trump emphasized on Friday that California Republican Senate candidate Steve Garvey has “no chance” of winning in November without MAGA.

While campaigning in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, Trump was asked whether he would endorse Garvey against his opponent and prominent Trump critic, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA). Trump said he “doesn’t know much” about Garvey and added that he thinks he’s made a “big mistake” not reaching out to MAGA.

A reporter followed up by asking if Garvey asked for his endorsement, to which Trump responded that he hadn’t spoken to him.

“Steve Garvey’s a nice guy. I don’t know him, at all. But if he doesn’t reach out to MAGA he has absolutely no chance,” he said.

Trump also used the opportunity to blast Schiff, saying he is “one of the most disgusting human beings.”

“And to think he’s going to be a senator, that’s why you need me as president because this guy is a sleazebag,” he said.

Schiff was notably the lead prosecutor in Trump’s first impeachment trial.

Garvey, a former Los Angeles Dodgers star, is set to face Schiff in November after both advanced through California’s jungle primary in March, besting the likes of Reps. Katie Porter (D-CA) and Barbara Lee (D-CA). The seat opened up after the death of the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

The latest polling from RealClearPolitics shows Schiff with a sizable lead over Garvey, with the California Democrat leading 57.3% to 33%.
