Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) said former CIA Director Michael Hayden has been reported to the Capitol Police over what the senator called a threat.

On Monday, in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Hayden responded to a post asking if Tuberville should be removed from his committee in the Senate, suggesting instead that he should be removed “from the human race.” The remark was interpreted by conservative figures and Tuberville himself as a call to violence against the Alabama Republican. In response, his office reported Hayden to the police.

“This morning my office was made aware of a statement made by General Michael Hayden calling for a politically motivated assassination,” Tuberville said in a statement. “This statement is disgusting and it is repugnant to everything we believe in as Americans. Given General Hayden’s long career in Washington, he must have known that, by making such a statement, he was committing a serious crime.”

“If we still have a nonpolitical justice system in this country, then General Hayden will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he added. “My office has reported this incident to the Capitol Police and I expect that they will once again do an excellent job protecting members of Congress and bringing criminals to justice.”

Tuberville then criticized Democrats over their failure to condemn Hayden’s “reckless statement.”

“This deafening silence tells us everything we need to know about Democrats and their commitment to ‘Our Democracy,’” he added. “In fact, Democrats have only continued to attack me by name today. Sadly, General Hayden is just the latest in a long line of Washington Leftists who have engaged in reckless rhetoric against me over the past few months. This must stop and it must stop now.”

The Alabama Republican took the opportunity to attack Hayden’s record. Hayden served as the director of the National Security Agency from 1999-2005 and as CIA director from 2006-2009.

“General Hayden presided over some of the biggest failures in the history of American intelligence, such as the September 11 attacks and the lack of Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq,” Tuberville said.

He added, “Further, General Hayden actively participated in the Russia Hoax and lied about Hunter Biden’s laptop to get Joe Biden elected President. Both of these lies tore our country apart and did enormous damage to the fabric of our republic. General Hayden is in no position to criticize anyone as his credibility was completely destroyed long ago.”

Hayden kept his post up on X, and he doubled down in a post on Tuesday.

I was surprised to wake up this morning and discover that many MAGAnuts had lost their minds over my suggestion that “Coach” Tuberville not be considered a member of the human race. I stand by that view. I’m wishing you all a nice day even the intransigent Tommy Tuberville.

The controversy isn’t the first instance that Hayden has been accused of calling for the death of conservative figures. Last year, he seemed to imply that former President Donald Trump should be executed for treason.
