Tucker Carlson says he would not vote for Trump-Haley ticket

Former Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson said Monday he would not vote for a Republican 2024 ticket with Donald Trump and Nikki Haley and would “advocate against it” as much as he could.

Carlson was asked by commentator Tim Pool at AmericaFest 2023 what he thought about the idea of Trump, the party front-runner, selecting Haley as his running mate. The question of whom Trump would select to serve as his vice president comes less than a year before the 2024 election and about a month before the Republican Party’s primary in Iowa in January.

“I would not only not vote for that ticket. I would advocate against it as strongly as I could,” Carlson said. “That’s just poison! I mean, here’s someone who’s actively opposed to the interests of the country I grew up in, who endorsed the BLM riots, and who is not left but is neoliberal in the darkest, most speaking of nihilist, nihilistic way and has no real popular supporters, is a creature of the oligarch. So yeah, that would be reason to oppose the ticket.”

Carlson’s comment comes after a report earlier this month hinted at the ex-Fox News reporter being considered as a nominee for Trump’s vice president. The commentator’s name is said to have shown up at the request of former first lady Melania Trump.

Others listed were Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH).

Carlson was also asked by a 12-year-old boy, who was kicked out of class over a “Don’t Tread On Me” flag patch he had on his backpack, about what he thought about serving as vice president for Trump, to which Carlson said he “didn’t know anything about that.”

“I have a couple friends in politics amazingly, but in general, I think they’re probably the worst people in society,” Carlson said. “And there’s got to be a name for this — a country of great people run by the worst people. It also describes the U.S. military, the best people led by the worst, and I honestly, I don’t think I could be around that.”

Carlson also stressed that he’s been a political commentator for decades and knows that’s where he belongs. “I’m a talk show host. That’s what I do.”

Trump was asked in October whom he would select as his vice presidential candidate, to which he said he is focused on winning the primary election and prefers “not to think too much” about whom his vice president would be. However, he said he likes “the concept” of selecting a woman as his vice president, adding that Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) is “fantastic” and has been “a great governor.”

President Joe Biden said earlier this year that he is seeking reelection in 2024, which could set up a rematch between Biden and Trump. Various polls have yielded different results on who would win in a Trump-Biden rematch, indicating a tight presidential race between the two likely candidates.
