UFC star rails against ‘despicable’ USA Boxing transgender policy

UFC star and former interim world champion Colby Covington railed against USA Boxing’s new transgender policy, deriding it as despicable and “potentially fatal.”

“It’s despicable,” Covington told Pete Hegseth of Fox News on Wednesday. “Biological men shouldn’t be allowed to compete in women’s sports. Doesn’t matter what their hormone levels or pronouns are, they’re still biological men.”

USA Boxing’s 2024 rule book dictates that any adult biological male who changes their gender to identify as a woman will be permitted to compete among women upon the completion of gender reassignment surgery and quarterly hormone testing.

Athletes’ testosterone levels will also be constantly monitored, but Covington said that doesn’t matter when it comes to the dangers of allowing grown biological men to fight women.

“When they dig up their bones in 200 years, their bones won’t leave pronouns,” Covington said. “They’re just gonna leave XX and XY chromosomes, and, unfortunately, boxing is a sport that could potentially have fatal consequences. So, to let women go against men is completely irresponsible, unethical, and dangerous.”

USA Boxing officials said the purpose of the organization’s new transgender policy is to provide fairness and safety, but Covington declared it nothing more than a public relations stunt.

“Anyone sincerely suggesting this is a good idea needs to seek serious professional help immediately,” Covington said. “I don’t know what sanctioning body or boxing commission is going to approve this. This is disgusting.

“To put a man in there against a woman … this is endangering someone’s life,” he added.
