An official from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency was grilled over claims the agency aimed at helping Palestinians helped bring rockets into Gaza to attack Israel.
Thomas White, director of UNRWA affairs, was confronted with two separate allegations made against the organization, which has been accused of terrorist affiliations in the past, while on CNN on Monday.

He was asked about accusations from the Israel Defense Forces that rockets were found on trucks going into Gaza under boxes marked with the UNRWA’s logo and a separate claim that a teacher with the organization held one of the recently freed Israeli hostages while he was abducted in Gaza.
White responded to the accusations by discussing how the group has distributed bags of flour to people in Gaza, avoiding the CNN anchor’s question.
“So what I can speak to is our aid,” he said. “Essentially, the aid that UNRWA is bringing in goes directly into the hands of the refugees. So on any given day here, we are distributing over 50,000 bags of flour to families so that they can provide for themselves. We account for that.”
When interrupted by the anchor and asked again about the two accusations, White denied that rockets had been brought in by UNRWA trucks and again discussed flour.
“Look, our trucks are not bringing in rockets,” White said. “Our trucks are bringing in wheat flour. They’re bringing in supplies that help families eke out a very basic existence. We have a very clear system of accountability. Every bag of flour that is provided is cross-referenced against people’s national identity number.”

“And so, you know, there are now hundreds of thousands of bags, literally wheat bags, wheat flour bags in Gaza with the UNRWA logo on them,” he added. “And they have all gone to families so that they can feed themselves.”
The organization has come under fire recently for accusations from a watchdog that those working for the U.N. agency “celebrated and justified” the terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israel in October, which sparked the conflict.
