UN says Trump funding cuts harm global ‘gender equality’

The United Nations lamented the “declining” state of “gender equality” worldwide in a Thursday report that blamed its loss of government funds for the backslide.

Agencies across the U.N. are reporting “actual or anticipated weakening of their gender equality efforts” among other setbacks stemming from government agencies pulling back taxpayer funds from the international body, according to its new “Gender Snapshot” report. President Donald Trump slashed financial support for numerous U.N. programs over concerns about its political stances and failure to protect humanitarian programs from security threats. Before Trump’s actions, America was repeatedly the U.N.’s largest donor per year.
