Police at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs are investigating a homicide after two people were found dead from gunshots inside a dorm room on campus.
Campus police officers received a call regarding shots fired in a dorm room at 6 a.m. and pushed out an alert to the university community to have people on lockdown over reports of an active shooter. Minutes later, the UCCS Police issued another alert stating that there was no active shooter on campus.
Colorado Springs police said in a statement on X that campus police gained access to a dorm room at 6:05 a.m. and “discovered two deceased individuals, each with at least one gunshot wound.” The name of the dorm was not released by city police.
However, campus police issued an alert that those in Alpine Village, a residential apartment complex, needed to continue to shelter in place — which later ended around 8:30 a.m. local time — due to the investigation.
“We are in the very early stages of piecing together what happened,” Colorado Springs police said. “We are in the process of notifying family members of the deceased individuals. We don’t believe there is an ongoing threat to the community and we are investigating this as an isolated incident.”
The city police said the deaths are being investigated as a homicide and it continues to be an active investigation.
