A woman in Christian County, Kentucky received a horrifying delivery of dismembered human body parts at 8 pm Wednesday night.
The woman was expecting a courier to deliver medical supplies to her door, but when she opened the package, she instead found a box of human remains packed on ice, according to WSMV4 News.
“She takes the box inside, opens it just like anybody else would, in the box are two arms and four fingers. Human cadaver parts,” Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel said.
“I think would [sic] anybody this time of year would have said that’d be a hoax… but it wasn’t,” Daniel added.
Local residents were stunned and expressed feelings of concern over future deliveries, but the coroner seemed confident this error wouldn’t happen again.
“I don’t even have words,” Kamela Stewart of Christian County told WsMV4 News. “I open boxes every day, and I would just die. I would scream and run away if that happened to me.”
Daniel said the delivery was not processed through typical mail services like USPS or FedEx, but rather a private courier service.
The body parts were supposed to have been sent to a medical training facility, and the mix-up was the result of mistakes made by multiple parties.
“There was three entities involved, and I think it’s just a perfect storm and everybody might have [made] a mistake,” Daniel said. “We get a lot of strange calls. It’s just another strange call.”
The sheriff’s office confirmed the incident was being treated as an accident, and noted that the body parts were re-routed to their correct destination.

The unintentional recipient of the human remains has since received the medical supplies she had been expecting, although the major mix-up that unfolded during the eerie week of Halloween is surely one she won’t soon forget.
