US citizen killed in West Bank, State Department says

The State Department has confirmed the death of a U.S. citizen in the West Bank.

A spokesperson for the State Department told CNN on Friday that it has asked the Israeli government for more information on the death and did not release the name of the dead citizen due to privacy concerns.

“Out of respect to the family during this difficult time, we have no further comment,” the spokesperson told the outlet.

A 17-year-old Palestinian American was killed during a clash that included a stone-throwing incident, according to Reuters, with Palestinian news agency WAFA claiming that he was killed by Israeli gunfire.

While the focus in Israel has been shifted to the war in Gaza against Hamas, tensions between Palestinians in the West Bank and Israel remain high.

President Joe Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday, where he discussed various topics, including Biden’s “vision for a more durable peace and security for Israel fully integrated within the region and a two state-solution with Israel’s security guaranteed,” according to a readout from the White House.
