Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) dismissed the unity Democrats are trying to display at the Democratic National Convention this week, arguing that it is merely a “mirage.”
Former President Donald Trump‘s running mate noted that Biden administration officials had argued for months that President Joe Biden was mentally fit enough to continue his reelection bid. However, the Democratic Party ditched Biden last month when it realized he was “political dead weight,” Vance argued, and it is instead running with Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I think that we’ve just witnessed in this country a monthlong campaign to completely separate Kamala Harris from the administration where she is the vice president,” Vance said on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime. “It takes a lot of aggressive lying and a lot of shamelessness to pull it off, but you don’t feel good when you look at yourself in the mirror after lying about Kamala Harris’s record for the past month.”
Vance continued by arguing that the pitch Democrats are making to voters with Harris is to elect the candidate who has already been vice president for more than three years to address the issues that have been plaguing the country. As such, Vance contended that the DNC is underlining how the party does not “really have a leg to stand on.”
Trump’s vice presidential candidate also warned against Harris’s plan to combat price-gouging to address inflation, claiming she would raise the cost of basic needs and then try to use “her government magic wand” to fix these prices. Conversely, he and Trump are planning to “unleash American energy” to address the cost of living.
“It’s just a totally different approach, and I don’t think that any person believes that Kamala Harris can wave a magic wand and bring down the price of bacon,” Vance said. “I do think that we believe that she can wave her magic wand and actually make things even worse than she’s already made them, which is why Americans are not going to buy into this idea that Kamala Harris deserves a promotion.”

Surrogates of the Trump campaign were in Chicago on Monday to conduct a press conference as counterprogramming to the DNC. It featured Sens. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) delivering speeches against Harris and her “failed record as vice president.”
The former president is also conducting several campaign rallies in battleground states throughout the DNC week, with Wednesday marking a visit to North Carolina and a stop in Arizona on Friday.
