A man dressed as the Grinch and holding a sign that said “Santa is fake. Jesus is real” on Monday stood outside an elementary school in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The man, a preacher named David Harold Grisham, brought his act of shouting “Keep Christ in Christmas” and “There is no Santa Claus. Santa does not exist” to the New Mexico school from his home in Amarillo, Texas, according to ABC7. Grisham previously stood outside Sleepy Hollow Elementary School in Amarillo before an angry dad tore the sign away from him, the outlet reported. Another angry dad in Albuquerque confronted Grisham, grabbing his sign and ripping it to shreds, according to ABC7.
“What the fuck!” the dad said. “Get this shit out of here.”
Other parents claimed Grisham was “destroying the magic of Christmas,” the outlet reported.
“To do that in front of little kids and try to destroy their wonder, destroy the magic of Christmas, it makes my blood boil,” mother Hannah Dalton told KRQE.
After the similar stunt two weeks ago at Sleepy Hollow Elementary, ABC7 asked Grisham about ruining the “magic” of Christmas.
“I’m not concerned about the ‘magic’ of Christmas but the MIRACLE of Christmas in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ,” Grisham said.
At the time, Grisham said he understood why parents were upset. “They’re upset because they’re prideful and don’t want to admit that lying to their child is wrong in spite of what God’s word says,” Grisham told ABC7.
Police in Albuquerque reacted the same way their fellow officers in Amarillo did, telling angry parents that Grisham’s acts on public property were not breaking any laws, according to ABC7.
Grisham’s Facebook page notes that he is a “pastor of a small group of street preachers who take the Gospel to those who will not step into a church.”
