WATCH: Congressman attacks NYC Mayor Eric Adams for ‘picking on small businesses’ with new pizzeria emissions law – Washington Examiner

Pizzerias and bakeries are getting burned in New York City because a new law could cost business owners some serious dough. NYC tops the country in serving the most expensive piece of pizza. This new emissions law requires bakeries and pizzerias with wood- and coal-fired stoves or cooktops to cut emissions by 75%. It could cause the price of the decadently flavored triangle to skyrocket even more as businesses are plagued with a massive expense.

“The law and the order is not necessary,” Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY) said. “Mayor [Eric] Adams and Gov. [Kathy] Hochul should be focused on their sanctuary city policies. They should be focused on high cost of living. They should be focused on the lack of security and safety in our communities, but instead, they’re picking on a bunch of small businesses.”

Molinaro questioned why Adams and Hochul didn’t put a bigger focus on ensuring the city government itself is not further polluting the state’s natural resources.

Adams stood firmly behind the new law at a press conference and claimed it’ll make a massive difference for the environment. The law targets stoves and cooktops that were installed before May 2016 for both pizzerias and bakeries. The new law is set to go into effect on April 27.
