WATCH LIVE: Kamala Harris speaks at Community Violence Awareness Week ceremony

Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver a speech at the Community Violence Awareness Week’s culminating ceremony on Friday.

The White House announced Monday that this week would be recognized as “Community Violence Awareness Week” as part of President Joe Biden‘s agenda to push Congress enact more gun control.

The Biden administration hosted a week’s worth of events focused on combatting gun violence in black communities.

Harris will honor 31 graduates from the inaugural class of trainees from the University of Chicago Crime Lab’s Community Violence Intervention Leadership Academy on Friday at the White House.

Community Violence Awareness Week also could affect Biden’s reelection campaign significantly, as he will rely heavily on black voters to boost his chances in November. Black voters were a key voting bloc that helped boost the president to the Democratic nomination and his win against then-President Donald Trump in 2020.

Harris’s remarks will begin at 12:15 p.m.
